    John Negroponte attended the funeral of Stavros Jacobos Negroponte [his cousin] (Manchester Guardian 11 May 1886, p 5).

    He and his wife attended the 1 Jan 1891 wedding of her brother John T. Petrocochino.

    He received the bulk of his mother-in-law's estate, which ended up in court.

    John A. Negroponte is the likely Mr. Negroponte who was a member of the Manchester Cretan Committee ("The Cretan Question," Manchester Guardian, 15 Mar 1897, p 7).

    Two years before his death John Ambrose Negroponte went to court in Manchester to update an Indenture of Settlement, dated 31 Dec 1880, between him and Themistocles Pandia Anthony Petrocokino (his future father-in-law), Esmeralda Petrocokino (his future wife) and Andrea Pandia Scaramanga concerning £10,000 to be lent to his firm, Messrs A.     J A Negroponte arrived Bombay from London aboard Sutlej 8 Nov 1888 and was among the passengers who signed a letter about the voyage, Times of India, 4 Dec 1888.

    J A Negroponte departed Bombay on Oriental, 7 Feb 1890, for Brindisi [Italy].

    Died:
    "Much regret is expressed at the death of Mr. J. A. Negroponte, who gave up business in Manchester a short time ago, after a long and honourable career." (The Manchester Guardian 1 Oct 1918, p 6)
