According to Judity Adamson, "Max and Stathy were close friends in Istanbul and Paris before the war, and they wrote to one another until Stathy's death. Max's letters to him were sent to NY where Stathy spent the war years, until he was returned to Europe for further surgery on a leg injury incurred in a skiing accident."
