- Alexandria merchant; founded in 1860 a commercial house with Jules Pastre, Marseille shipbuilder; founded the Anglo-Egyptian Bank in 1864, leading in 1872 to the creation in London of the Bank of Alexandria, then in Alexandria, of the General Bank of Egypt. After his death the banks were directed by his son Constantine and nephew Themistocles. [1]
