    One box of merchandise arrived New York on the Baltic for Conas Negroponte (New York Daily Tribune, 27 Oct 1857, p 8).

    On the day of the 1861 British census, there were two unmarried men named Constantine Negroponte in Liverpool: (1) aged 27, cotton merchant, born in Syros, Greece, lived at 150 Crown Street with Mary Anne Smith, a visitor, and a servant. (2) aged 32, merchant, lodged at 163 Upper Parliament Street [digital record difficult to decipher; scanner says middle initial 'P' and born USA]. Most probably, this man is the latter or neither.

    Constant P. Negroponte, Greek merchant, residing at Beech House, Fairfield [Greenbank Dr, Sefton Park] was involved in a paternity suit with Sarah Parry, a waitress, 31 Montague Street concerning her child, born 27 Jan 1862.

    Occupation: Negroponte & Co, cotton buyers 11 Cotton Exchange (1882-1884); cotton exporters 51 Main, Norfolk, Va. (1885-1892). E. Fachiri worked out of the same address.

    1893 Galveston, TX directory lists C.P. Negroponte, cotton buyer; office, 2023 Strand, Galveston, TX; rms D. Paterachi [Demosthenes Paterachi, cotton buyer, office 2022 Strand, r. 2024 25th, cor Ave Q.]

    Perhaps he had a son, Michael, a physician.
