    John James Negreponte along with James Constantine Negreponte [possibly Jacob (Constantine) Negroponte], and Leonidas Vernudachi retired on 31 Mar 1861 from a partnership consisting of John Sten. Schilizzi, Eml. Halduvachi, John Stefanovich Schilizzi, Paul Stefanovich Schilizzi, Paul John Schilizzi, Michele P. Mavrogordato, Giovanni Vafiadacchi, Z. Stef. Schilizzi, Demetrius J. Paspali, Ambo. M. Cappari, Jean F. Paspatti, A. Z. Caridia, M. F. Paspatti, D. Stef. Schilizzi, and N. P. Caridia. The firms operated as merchants, at London, Manchester, and Calcutta, under the firm of Schilizzi and Co.; at Leghorn, under the firm of Schilizzi and Vafiadacchi; at Constantinople, under the firm of Z.     John J. Negreponte, Alexandria, Banker, was a partner in the Bank of Alexandria Limited (London Gazette 28 Feb 1874).

    With his father, James Constantine Negreponte [Jacob (Constantine) Negroponte] and his brothers, Constantine James Negreponte [Constantine (Jacob) Negroponte], and Michael (Jacob) Negreponte [Jacob (Constantine) Negroponte, he was partners in the firm of C & M Negreponte, merchants(London Gazette 28 Nov 1865).

    John J. Negroponte (£15), P.P. Negroponte (£5), C.J. Negroponte (£5), Sophocles Spartali (£5), A.S. Agelasto (£5), C.T. Rodocanachi (£15), were among contributors to the Cephalonia Relief Fund (Liverpool Mercury 26 Mar 1867).

    Negroponte Bros. was likely the brothers Constantine (born 1834) and Jacques (born 1838), sons of Jacob (Constantine) Negroponte. Negroponte Brothers & Co, merchants, handled the disposal of damaged and irregular American cotton (Liverpool Mercury, 24 Aug 1869).

    A classified ad in The Times, 7 Feb 1866, pg. 1, offered a reward for a letter lost in London containing a £330 bill of exchange drawn by M.J. Negroponte, Alexandria, upon John J. Negroponte, Liverpool.

    J. C. Negreponte, Esq. contributed £1 to a relief drive ("Destructive Fire in St. John's, Newfoundland," The Manchester Guardian 11 Jul 1846, p 1). [this may not be he]

    James Constantine Negreponte "a Greek merchant, living in London" was the victorious defendant in a court case -- Munn and others v. Negreponte -- involving agency and the non-payment for goods (The Manchester Guardian 3 Apr 1841, p 3). This, as well as the other citations, could refer to his approximate namesake, Jean Constantine Negroponte.
