He ran the commercial house Calvocoressi & Co. and owned a residence and three rural properties, all forming a capital in excess of 400,000 francs. He was naturalized French in 1879.

According to his naturalization files he "a dû s’enfuir de son pays natal en 1822 à cause de troubles qui le désolaient. Sa famille se réfugia tout d’abord à Trieste où il a été élevé. En 1835, il alla se réfugier à Alger où il représenta le guvernement grec en qualité de consul. […] En 1851, il quitta Alger for Marseille […]."
