According to the eyewitness chevalier Edouard Graziani, recounting in 1922, the first game of bridge was played at Buyukdere, Turkey in August 1873 at the Villa Coronio. The players were himself and "M. Serghiadi, a financier of Romanian origin...M. Georges Coronio, director of the Bank of Constantinople; M. Eustache Eugenidi."
